Psalms 68:19, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Se’lah.
Last night/early this morning I was just like a kid on Christmas morning. I could NOT get to sleep for nothing! I was up and down all night and before I knew it, it was 1:45am. I kept telling myself - if I could just get to sleep at this point - I could still get a few hours of rest before having to get back up at 5:00am to prepare for Worship.
I begin talking with the Lord and telling him I was having a tough time getting to sleep. I shared with the Lord how in the past - these kind of sleepless nights in the past - were always connected to something bad having to do with one of my kids or family members (being sick, hurt, needing help, etc.).
But as a parent, you instinctively know when your children or loved one needs help. I prayed this was not the case. I shared with the Lord that I was trusting him for the safety of my family both near and far. I asked him if he would allow me to get a couple hours of rest before preparing for Resurrection Worship. Apparently, within a few minutes I was out like a light. In fact, I can’t even remember closing my prayer in Jesus’ name.
When I woke up it was right on schedule - 4:54am. I began to thank God for the rest he had given me. I got the kids up and moving when it hit me… how rude of me to go to sleep on the Lord last night before ending my prayer. Have you ever done such a thing? I was shamed and began to expressed to the Lord my sincere apology for going to sleep on him.
In my spirit he gave me this response, “I already knew what you needed and had already started the process of giving you the sweet rest you requested - before you ended your prayer.” I realized in that moment I wasn’t supposed to end my prayer, but instead, I was supposed to pickup right where I had left off. IMAGINE THAT.
So, this word is to the person needing some rest. You haven’t slept in days and need a good nights rest. Ask God. Ps 127:2b says, “God is the one who gives sweet rest to those whom he loves.” We have not because we ask not. Believe it or not - God is interested in the little and simple matters, such as you needing sleep. IMAGINE THAT.
